Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the DJ so important at a wedding reception?

The quality and experience of the DJ will make the difference of whether you and your guests dance and have a great time, creating a life-long fond memory, or let your party fizzle and embarrass you. The DJ wears many hats during a wedding reception. He coordinates all the events with the caterer and photographer, plays appropriate music that all the guests will enjoy, puts you and your guests at ease, and generally is in control of the success or failure of your party. The quality, experience and professionalism of your DJ impact directly on the success of your party. Since the DJ at a wedding reception is responsible for coordinating events with the caterer and photographer, he must have the knowledge and experience for the job. In addition, the DJ must have the enthusiasm and skill necessary to ensure that you and your guests enjoy every moment of your party!

Is it better to hire a single operator or a DJ from a large DJ company?

When you hire me, a single operator, you get "Bob Mitchell - Professional Disc Jockey" who specializes in providing expert, personalized service for all my clients. My name and reputation are on the line at every event that I perform at. I truly care about the success of your party! When you hire me, YOU GET ME! I know how to make your party great, and I have many pictures, video clips and enthusiastic references to prove it!

What kind of sound system do you have?

I own three top quality sound systems that I perfectly match to the location and size of your party.  My sound systems include: The Electro-Voice System 200,
The Bose PAS System and Mackie SRM-450 speakers.

All are excellent!

Do you take requests?

YES, I do take requests! I also have available an extensive song list for you and your guests to choose from, which makes it easy for everyone to find a song that they like.

How large is your music library?

HUGE - I carry over 10,000 digitally recorded songs to each party, giving you and your guests a wide variety of music in different styles to choose from. I subscribe to a professional DJ service that supplies me with all the new hit songs several months before they are played on the radio.

Do you have DJ lighting?

YES! High quality professional lighting adds excitement and energy to any party! I have a special set of lights that is perfect for wedding receptions. They add excitement to the dance floor but don't detract from the elegance of a beautiful ballroom. Good lighting is expensive to purchase and maintain, and increases the set-up and break-down time. I believe the extra expense and effort are worthwhile because lighting makes your party that much better!

How loud is your volume?

ALWAYS TASTEFUL! People are generally very concerned about volume. I constantly check with you and your guests to make sure that everyone is happy. With the Bose PAS system, being too loud and offensive is no longer an issue.  I want everyone to have a good time and I want all your guests to stay until the end of the party.

How do you get everyone to dance?

Have you ever been to a party where it takes forever for someone to get enough courage to dance? I have perfected ways to get your party started fast, which are fun, effective and ALWAYS TASTEFUL!

Do you sub-contract?

NEVER!! I would never entrust the most important day of your life to anyone else! I offer you my personalized service with years of experience backing me up.

Do you belong to any DJ organizations?

I belong to the American Disc Jockey Association and the Capital District Wedding Association.

Are you insured?

YES, and I will be happy to show you my insurance documents.

How do you keep up with the latest trends?

I attend the International DJ Convention in Atlantic City each year with 4,000 other top DJs from around the country who constantly try to improve their show, as I do. I also read Mobile Beat and D.J. Times magazines for information on every aspect of the DJ industry. I am always looking for ways to improve my presentation.

Are you on referral lists at banquet facilities?

I am on the referral list of many top banquet facilities that don't require some sort of advertising or payment to be on a referral list. The best referrals will come from happy couples who have hired me.

What do you wear?

For weddings and formal affairs, I wear a very stylish, full tuxedo. For less formal affairs, a tuxedo shirt with a bow tie and vest is more appropriate.
